On Saturday, March 23, 2013 two of C.U. Cycling’s members headed out for Citizens for Safe Cycling’s second annual Spring.Bike.Ottawa event. Tamara Nahal presented on C.U. Cycling’s history and work to date and outlined some of the future steps for the group.
Even though they arrived at around 9:30am (with the event to start at 10am), the room was packed! Seats were filling up and a line was forming to sign in. By 10 sharp, Hans Moor kicked off the event and Paul Dewar followed up with the first presentation of the morning.
We talked about the formation of C.U. Cycling, some of the problems we’ve faced as a mostly-student and alumni-run club, particularly with funding and membership numbers. But we also outlined some of our successes so far, including our Community Cycling Meeting on December 4, 2012, and our involvement in hosting the Bronson Safety Review Open House on February 27, 2013.
It was a great event and something we’d love to see again in the future! We were excited to have been invited and have the opportunity to talk. A lot of folks commented on the energy we brought to the table and how it was great to see students organizing to affect positive change in the city.
Thanks to everyone who came out!
